How many U.S. citizens would die or become very ill? Where do you think they would do it? (My thought is NYC or DC). Is there even an evacutation process written yet in case this happens? This is scary stuff to think about, but look what we did to those people in Japan during WWII....they weren't expecting anything like that!

I think it is pretty much a given that some day - 1 years or 10 years hence - that will happen; which is why we cannot allow Iran, North Korea or any other country that is friendly with terrorists to develop nuclear weapons technology. They would share with terrrorists in a minute and with enough planning such a device could be smuggled into the US.
If a nuke detonated at a major shipping harbor in LA or New York, not only would it kill hundreds of thousands and sicken millions, but it would severely cripple import and distribution of goods and affect the whole world economy. If it detonated in Washington DC, killing the President and most of congress, the country would be thrown into political chaos. Imagine martial law, generals taking over the country, millions without homes, food, or power - essentially New Orleans X 1000.
Al Queda has shown that they have the patience, funding and intelligence to plan and execute sophisticated attacks. Our country is more vulnerable than people like to believe and we need to be locking down the borders - especially shipping containers that come on ships.
How would the US respond? Could be WWIII, nuclear style! Start nuking all the major cities in countries that support terror? Who knows, but I believe the US is doing the world a favor by suppressing the military aspirations and weapons development of many of the Middle-Eastern countries.

There is a possibility that terrorists in the US might possess a "dirty" bomb. Wherever bullets, rockets, missiles or bombs are used, it is devastating. Property can be restored, but even a lifetime is not long enough to resolve grief over a lost loved one.
Since Muslims, Jews and Christians have messianic beliefs, maybe praying for the messiah to come and bring lasting peace before the world destroys itself would be a win-win-win solution

that's pretty much what we are suppose to be keeping an eye on.
at this time there really aren't any missiles that can hit the US from anywhere. More concern is the tiny nukes, or our ports. An evacuation plan for places like Washington, and NY simply are not feasible. My guess is all Washington big wigs would crawl to their hidey hole and sacrifice us common folk...should anyone be aware.
So if the News ever starts reporting that a lot of influential rich people are suddenly packing for vacations, it's time to duck and cover.

The US will retaliate with every weapon at our disposal, be it conventional/chemical/bio/nuclear. We will obliterate any group,religion,or country responsible. Even if that person,faith or region had nothing to do with the attack. The US will start at the point of origin and work all the way down to the last rock.THEY WILL AWAKEN A GIANT WITH A TERRIBLE RESOLVE -------WITH DESTRUCTION . Just ask JAPAN and see if WE will not!!!!!!! Any foreign country that harbors a terrorist group that would plan to do something like this, had better to heed! YOU WILL GO DOWN WITH THEM!!!! You might think about that!!!!!!

I know, and it's very possible. With a porous southern border, and as others have pointed out, lax security at the northern border, they could just walk right in with one. And our leaders sit there with their thumb up their butts and do nothing about it.
Recently they approved the construction of a fence at the mexico border, but then voted against the funding for it. Wha...?!?!
