ALL black peoples did originate from Africa. So did all white people but their ancestors in Africa were Black. Blacks have not existed outside of Africa long enough to not be called anything but African. (yes, i know that's a double negative) The correct term is *****. However since that sounds much like the slang NI**ER it is unpopular. ******* is also correct, meaning "related to ******" If you can't accept your biological designation then just settle for "Non-Indigenous Dark Skinned European" NIDSE or Nid for short.
And yes starrwoode, Aborigines did migrate from Africa too.

We had an idiot in my class once at nursing school. There were two girls named Sandy, and one was caucasian, and the other black, so this numbskull asked the black girl if she could call her " Black Sandy" because she couldn't remember her last name.
Sandy replied, " .. And I'll slap your face!"
It's ignorance, plain and simple.
When I was in grade school the teacher sent a form asking what our heritage was, and she would not accept American, even though my family on both sides have been here over 5 generations, and am part American Indian. ( that's another story, sister! ). My Mom had a fit.
It's ignorance, maybe someday we can all get along and just be one race - human. ??
Take care.

I'm guessing when someone sees a person with a brown complection in America, they automatically think that they're American so they call them African Americans. But if you're from Europe then I would just call you European.

It's part of a "racial identity" crisis. They seek to identify themselves and be identified and they think by labeling themselves as this or that will bring dignity to their race.
READ: Juan Williams runaway Best Seller..."Enough" and his
articulate analysis of the "generational culture of failure" that Blacks in in America are still enslaved to! It's brilliant!
He supports Bill Cosby's treatise and exhortation to Blacks in America to STOP glorifying criminality as their birthright and blaming everybody and everything in sight as justification for their own soaring illegitimate birthrates and Drop-out rates and ever-increasing incarceration levels!
He clearly exposes Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for exactly who they are! Juan Williams is Black.

if you are black racially then you are african by decent and thats all there is to it. you can call yourself what you like, not my problem. the only exception might be the austrailian aborigines, and maybe they started out in africa at some point, i dont know all that much about them.

If you have African descent but were born in America this would be correct, but you're right, being black doesn't mean you're African American. Jamaicans, Barbadians, and Haitians are black too.

African Americans are called African Americans because they are Americans of African descent. What the hell are you asking? Did someone say you are an African American? What the???
If you aren't American and not African, so be it.
