I am almost 38 weeks pregnant and my little one gets the hiccups at least twice a day! I remember when my daughter was a newborn, she had them many times a day. I think it's cute, but at the same time I kinda feel sorry for her in there. I know sometimes when I get the hiccups, they start to hurt after awhile.

Does anyone know why they get them so much?
And yes, thankyou I know it's normal and the baby is fine.

Yes, my babies experienced hiccups too! It is funny...this sudden twitch of the baby!

BUT....hiccups aren't caused by air (the baby doesn't have air!!)
It is caused by their diaphragm. Sometimes the diaphragm becomes irritated, and the muscles twitch. Some things that irritate the diaphragm are eating too quickly or too much. In the last trimester, babies are swallowing, and sometimes GULPING the amniotic fluid they live in. They are learning to suck and swallow, so they will be ready to nurse. And if they are really gulping that fluid....it can set off some hiccups. Almost all cases of the hiccups last only a few minutes.

Be prepared for a very eager eater when the little one gets here.

When I was pregnant the first time, my daughter usually got the hiccups, now she is 17 years old, and still gets it many times, and she hates it! My son never got the same while unborn, and he gets it once in a while like almost everybody.
No doctor, nobody that I know, knows why this happens, but it does.

All three of my babies where hiccupers during pregnancy. My last usually got the hiccups at night. I was told by my doctor that hiccups don't hurt an unborn like they do us. The baby is acctualy practicing breathing. It is fun to feel, unless it is 2 in the morning, but I knew then that my baby was ready to be born.

yes, my first baby had hiccups all the time during the pregnancy. It is pretty funny, and cute too. I never thought about them hurting though, I just remember it's a really funny feeling.

Your toddler is doing greater suitable than in basic terms kicking your bladder, she is rolling around on stunning of it and laying on it and doing somersaults over it. that's extremely established and occurs to all pregnant women human beings. maximum mothers can experience hiccups interior the womb as properly. It looks like a small kick then yet another small kick, then yet another ect... It very virtually looks like they're kicking you each and each 5 seconds persistently and over, yet that's the way you already know that's the hiccups and not the toddler kicking you because of the fact they do no longer kick in different kinds like that. you will defnintley comprehend in case you experience it or have felt it.

my daughter got hiccups all the time, before she was born and even afterwards. it always seemed like she got them when i went to bed. i used to feel bad too, because hiccups annoy me, and the poor baby would get them all the time. i can just imagine what she was thinking the first time she got them "what the heck is going on?" lol. babies are so cute.

Mine has been getting them lately (he's six months along!). I have heard it's because they are practicing the sucking motion they'll use to breastfeed or bottle feed... You know they swallow amniotic fluid, and suck their thumbs/fingers/toes... I guess since they're "practicing" maybe they do it for too long, or do it wrong? And get the hiccups?? I don't know for sure, but it's kind of funny... I start giggling whenever I feel the little *bump... bump... bump...* cause I know he's just got himself all in a fit, trying to figure it out. I do feel sorry for him too, poor little guy!! Funny, I thought I was the only one that thought about that - "poor kid, he's got them again!"

When I was pregnant with my oldest daugher she would get the hiccups everynight around 7PM. After she was born for the first couple of weeks she still got the hiccups at 7PM.

Yes my baby had them all the time, and my belly would jump like crazy. My doctor told me that when they hiccup it does not bother them at all, and in fact they are "practicing" breathing so their bodies know what to do when they hit air! :)
