Push it completely in.But yeah I do agree pads are anytime better choice.Chose slicker ones, you wo'nt feel odd.And choose one with wings to save your panty lines.Don't worry ,periods are natural,if you take care of a few things you will be fine.Avois chocolates or other high fat calory foods, drink lots of water,no tensions,do activites which make you feel relaxed.Just for three days and you are all good :)

Read the instructions again.
If you are using one with an applicator, put your fingers on the ridges and push it in until your fingers touch your body, then you push the tampon in and remove the applicator. You might find that sitting over toilet is easier to help insert, or even place one foot on toilet or bath, the raised legs helps you get at the correct angle. You shouldn't feel the tampon and it shouldn't hurt if inserted correctly. If you have trouble or pain, remove it and try again if needed. Otherwise, use pads until you are comfortable with things.

Hold the tampon at the base of the applicator. Go in until your fingers touch your body. Then push the plunger in. That should get the tampon into place. If the tampon feels painful or uncomfortable, push it in alittle further with your finger. You know you're wearing it right if you can't feel it.

You put your fingers on the tampon at the bumpy part in the middle. then you push it in until your fingers are touching your underside. then push the top part in, so it inserts the actual cotton part into the vagina. also, if you're having too much trouble, just stick to pads. tampons are a lot handier, but it takes a while to get used to the whole "menstruation" thing before you start wearing tampons. good luck : )

Use a pad until you feel comfortable with knowing when you are getting it. Use a tampon about 6 months after you first get it its alot easier then using a tampon first off.

I am one of the unlucky who could not use them, they caused me to bleed heavier and cramp harder. But my sister loved them as compared to pads. I was always envious, :-)
Excellent source of information for you here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Use-a-Tampon
Also, FYI : Don't use a tampon unless your vagina is actually bleeding . If you use one while you are not on your period, it will be slightly painful and dry.
Don't leave the tampon in for longer than 8 hours
You should never use vaseline as a lubricant on your vagina.
Don't flush applicators or tampons down the toilet, it might clog! Instead, wrap them in toilet paper and throw them in the trash.

When you insert the tampon you need to stop when your fingers that's holding the applicator touches the outside part of your labia, your box should have directions, it's rather simple

put it up there, then push the bottom up,then the other should slide down and out. Read the directions if this dosen't work. I was so stupid when I first learned and ended up wearing the whole thing, and keeping my legs closed so that it wouldn't slide out. OUCH!

put it in all the way, if it doesn't go in completely, somethings wrong. take it out, tell a parent, something.
if it hurts TAKE IT OUT you're doing it wrong. enter it in at a 45 degree-ish angle and you should be fine
dont push or pull too hard.
i myself dont really use them because theyre not as comfy as pads.
just do what feels better =)
