Read up on FEE-BAY as they just recently altered their prices, commission, fee's, etc. Enough so that many of the long timer ebay'rs are leaving in droves.
I myself use to have 3 stores on ebay, I have closed down 2 now and in process of closing last one this month. Not worth my time and energy as there is no profit anymore on fee-bay.
Figure if you sell something for $20, after all the listing fee's, ending fee's, closing fee's, paypal fee's, store fee's, you might, MIGHT make $5 if you are lucky.
Ebay owns Paypal so they are making out like bandits on both sides of the coin. All they have done is build a web site, they don't touch product, store product, nothing yet make more than the sellers do who actually do all the work.
Sellers made ebay and they forgot that....so now the sellers are leaving. I know of over 100 big time ebayrs that have closed up due to these recent price changes and the same ole same ole ebay jerking their customers.

They charge yo for listing the item.. then for selling the item. Best sellers I have seen in my own searches are laptops and digital cameras (the camera I got on sale with a warranty for 3 years was like $229 and saw a USED one sold on Ebay - same model - for $103 more) Certain hand made stuff sells good, as well as antique items.

My parents used to do an excellent sort of advertising on Ebay and an excellent sort of the time they could look to modern activities to return to a decision what to purchase. that they had a distinctly extensive number of books, political and activities memorabilia. they could see what politicians, activities figures or activities have been contained in the information and could sell something that they had that replaced into correct. i think of that what sells on Ebay is in all probability an ever-changing ingredient.

Ebay charges you if (a) you list an item whether the item sells or not; (b) you add bells and whistles in your listing such as gallery, bold, subtitle; and (c) when your item sells. Check the fees of ebay on their Fees page http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html
Your first stop should be eBay's Guide to Seller Services http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/services.html
eBay's Seller Central has all the resources you need to learn about the basics of selling on eBay http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/index.html
The key to a successful eBay selling is simple -- Sell products that people actually want.
Selling on eBay is not as easy as some portray. In fact, go to eBay and check out the number of auctions that end without a single bid. Competition is getting tough, as more sellers go to eBay; even the big boys are joining in the eBay marketplace. Add to that the increasing listing and final value fees.
eBay has several ways for you to determine exactly what the hot items to sell on their marketplace:
Items In Demand = the most popular items currently within that particular category. To see the In Demand page, go to http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/sellbycategory.html
Hot Items by Category Report = a monthly report that lists the fastest growing categories on eBay for the previous month. Go to http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html and select "Hot Items by Category" from the menu on the left.
eBay Pulse = "a daily snapshot of current trends, hot picks, and cool stuff on eBay". Go to http://pulse.ebay.com/ to see eBay Pulse in action.
Merchandising Calendar = eBay promotes specific categories on its home page each month. Savvy eBayers know that this home page exposure results in more interest in such categories. Go to http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/calendar.html to view the current Merchandising Calendar.
Other non-eBay sites that teaches how to sell on eBay successfully are:
