I think that you are an absolute sweetheart to want to bring your teacher a present.
If you have any flowers in your yard bring her one....or if you don't go to the florist and ask how much it will cost to buy a daisy or something inexpensive like that and give her a single flower.
I would be very proud of you if you were my granddaughter or being so thoughtful

I got an apple on my first day of teaching at a new school and thought it was absolutely adorable. I read someone's answer about dry erase markers, and THAT would be a great present. I think I could probably order 50 packs a year and still manage to need more (don't ask me how).
A more personal gift would be a copy of one of your favorite books to add to your teacher's classroom library. That would score points AND help out everyone in the long run.

Teachers don't expect a gift on the first day of school and, in fact, would be suspicious of your motives in giving one. It's different at the end of the year, if you've had a successful year and you and your teacher liked each other, then a small gift (chocolates or something of that sort) would be appropriate. But at the beginning of the year, when you don't even know her, it wouldn't be appropriate.
Just give her your attention, work hard, and respect what she is trying to do. That's all any teacher asks for.

There is absolutely no need to give gifts to teachers on the first day of school. I would recommend you forget the whole idea.
To get on the good side of your teacher, just do your best academically and show effort. Buying favor with presents is the worst way. You WILL look like a suck-up not only to the teacher, but to your peers as well. Teachers don't want gifts, they want to see their students excel in school. The best present you can give a teacher is to show them that THEY are doing a good job by YOU learning.

Don't get a gift. I teach 2nd grade, but if I were a teacher of kids your age, any gift would be a suck-up teacher's pet gift. And the other kids are going to think you are kissing her butt and being a brown-noser.
Sure, I like getting gifts from students, for Christmas, my birthday, and end-of-the-year. But the first day of school is odd to me.
Just be yourself, be polite, respectful, and be open to learning and listening.

The best gift you could give your teacher is hard work all year.
A great first day of school gift that I would enjoy would be flowers picked by you!

Be on time, organized, and attentive, and ask good questions. (When teachers ask, "Any questions?" they really do want somebody to raise his or her hand!) If you do this, you will REALLY make a good impression, and she will remember you.
I am a teacher myself, and a gift on the first day of school would seem phony to me.
P.S. I notice that all the teachers who have answered are giving this same response!

Pay attention. Keep your eyes and mind on the teacher, and give feedback - show in your face your enjoyment, puzzlement, etc. You will find your teacher relates to you better if you do this. No other gift is as good as this.
