Let x = Mr Charleston's brother
4x = Mr Charleston

4x + 16 = 2(x + 16)
4x + 16 = 2x + 32
2x = 16
x = 8

Mr Charleston is currently 32 years old. Ten years ago he was 22. The answer is c.

C = 4B
16 + C = 2(B+16)

Substitution 16 + 4B = 2(B + 16)
4B = 2B + 32 -16
2B = 16
B = 8 -> Brothers age
4B = 32 -> Mr. charleston Age
32 - 10 = 22 Mr. charleston Age 10 years ago.
C. 22 is the answer.

Answer is c
at this time the equation is x=4y
after 16 year the equation will be x+16=(y+16)*2
or x+16=(x/4+16)*2 or x+16=(x+64)/2
2x+32=x+64 or x=32
Before 10years the age of Mr Charleston was 22

Today:

Charleston's brother age = x
Charleston's age = 4x

After 16 years:

Charleston's brother age = x + 16
Charleston's age = 4x +16

Since Charleston age should be twice the age of Charleston's brother we have the equation:

(4x + 16) / (x + 16) = 2

computer for x and you get 8 (which represent's charleston's brother age).

Therefore charleston age now should be 8(4) = 32.

Therefore charleston age 10 years ago is 22.

I think it's C too. Here's the reasoning:

22 + 10 = 32 years old
32 / 4 = 8 yrs old
(16 + 32) = 2(8 + 16)
so, 48 = 48.
The answer is C. Hope you found this helpful.

ok right now Mr C is 4b where b is his bros current age
in 16 yrs he'll be twice his brothers age so
4b+16 = 2(b +16)

so b = 8

so Mr C is 32 so 10 yrs ago he was 22

(c)

his age was 22.
let Mr. C's present age be x, and his brother's age be y.
now, x=4y
After 16 years, Mr. C's age = x + 16,
and his brother's age= y+16
x+16 = 2(y+16)
x +16=2y +32
Substituting the value x=4y,
4y+16=2y+32
on solving, you will get y=8
But, x=4y
so, x=4X8=32
ten years ago, his age will be
present age-10
=32-10
=22
