An assistant or secretary often has access to information and documents related to the business and its' personnel. Those assistants and secretaries who are professional take their position seriously and treat all documents in a confidential manner. The role of the assistant or secretary is one of responsibility and trust and confidentiality is a part of the role.

Most Admin vacancy announcements listed for senior managment specifically state "someone that can work with confidential information"...

It is the nature of the job and you are expected to keep all the company secrets. People will test you by asking you about salaries, things that happened in meetings the were closed to the general staff. You will know who going and coming before they know sometimes. You may know about suits that are pending or on going, etc. If you have lose lips, you may not want to take on this responsibility. Because people do talk and it will get out that the source was the SECRETARY. If you are ever approached about something that you know is a confidential in nature, you can either tactfully let the person know that you value your job, and/or report them to a VP...

Best wishes.

Well first of all there is alot of confidential material she is privy to depending on the commodity of the business. You could be a secretary for a Psychiatrist as I once was and you would not want someone blabbing about your visits?!! Money passes through the secretaries hands and again this is none of anyones business. Many jobs require confidentiality!!!

more often than not the Secretary/receptionist/admin asst. is the for front of the agency. if this person does not give their all or show the best first impression than your agency does not either. confidentiality maybe the most important, but also maybe one of the smallest details in such a job. I value our receptionist, she is our front line, she is our filter.

There is so much information that goes across a secretaries desk!!! A secretary must be discreet! Walk tall and have that smile of confidence knowing that only a few know what you know.
