Because there's more to baseball than numbers.

The BEST PLAYER may go to Ortiz, but oh yeah guess what the bo sox aren't making the playoffs! SO looking at playoff teams, the MOST VALUABLE to their team would have to be Ivan "Pudge" Rodruigez of the Detroit Tigers. His leadership and intensity are unmatched, and his knowledge of the game behind the plate has helped Tigers pitchers become the #1 staff in the league. Without him, Detroit is a mediocre team at best.

Definitely David Ortiz. Btw, nydjsrgmpwc, the Tigers are NOT a mediocre team without Pudge Rodriguez, half the time Pudge is sitting on the bench or not catching and Vance Wilson fills in perfectly. You obviously do not know what you are talking about.

if the question was who SHOULD win the answer would be Big Papi (David Ortiz)... but you said who WILL win so I'd have to say Derek Jeter or Jim Thome

Just to be different I will say Jim Thome....I know the Sox aren't the team they were last year, but look at the stats (.303/34/85).
