First He wasn't the first President of the USA(by a technicality) and thru the rebellion he was an artful and accomplished deceiver of the enemy, his internal foes and the members of the Continental congress all in aid of his cause and the men and women fighting at his side and under his orders. So he did lie,as all humans do, but his deceptions were not self serving but for the furtherance of his cause

He didn't have to lie to become president, he didn't want to be president he went kicking and screaming, but everybody picked him so he had to be president. I watch a documentary on him and the people were amazed with he gave up the presidency, most people would have stayed in power, but he said no he did he duty. that's enough. To bad most of the politicians to day don't believe that. by everybody picking him I mean among the others that were forming the government at the time.

Interesting question. I agree, they all lie, some better than others.

Was Washington elected? I know they wanted him to be King, but he declined and liked the idea of president.

Again, I don't think there was an election for him, at least not a public one. Maybe the founders voted him in.

Unfortunately, THAT George lived in a time when honesty was common among politicians, and the ACLU wasn't twisting up the truth to squeeze every bit of common sense out of issues.

George Washington was not VOTED into presidency. If he had to persuade the public to vote for him, I am sure he would have lied as well.

Good question, maybe one of the best yet. Maybe lying wasn't a requirement for the presidency back then.

He was the first. He set the example which all other presidents lean away from.
