I did my research, climate, housing, money, driving. But what else do I really need to know prior to giving up everything I have here to move to Australia. Has anybody out there done it and give me some advice, please.

I live in australia (perth) and regularily go to melbourne each year..
Climate in Summer about 32-37degrees.. winter 12-25degrees.
housing depends what sort of place you want to live in.. you could find share accom anywhere from $60aus - $150aus a week depending on the living circumstances.. a whole house to yourself renting would be $180-$350 a week..
If your american your dollar is stronger than ours..
as for driving I would not bother with a vehicle in melb at 1st as the public transport system over there is great..Trains,taxi's, Trams, Buses..etc..
As for the lifestyle Melbourne people are very cultural & artistic, Love the local music scene..Pubs are on every corner so I hope you like a few beers.. and you have to try and embrace the Australian Football League..everyone in melb are fanatics (Go for Collingwood.. Best side ever :) ha,ha..) also food there is awesome..so many places that have great cheap food..If I lived there permantly I'd eat out every night..Lot's of italians & greeks in melb (hence the good food).. umm melbourne is also quiet punk which makes for interesting walks through the city..(wow, the people are fun to look at in a good way..)

Hey, give it a shot over here.. you'll never know unless you make the move... It may seem a scary thing to do but us aussies don't bite :) and think of it as a growing experience.. Lucky you to be able to land a job in another country..

(oh and another tip.. us aussies are very sarcastic people.. and we may great each other by saying Hey C*nt, or seeya D*ckhead..That's just the way we are.. we don't mean it derogratorily, it's us trying to be affectionate.. I know a few people that went over seas and got into some strife carrying on the way we do here at home)..

If you don't mind my asking what is it you'll be doing over here for work??

Good luck whatever you decide!!

Australians drive in the opposite directions. So be careful when crossing the road, look the other way..
