I've had lots of pets before.. fishes, guinea pigs, rabbits, turtles and chickens. Currently i have a dog, and it's the best pet i've personally ever had. They are so much smarter and responsive compared to smaller animals. If you prefer cats, then cats will probably be the best for you. They're really smart too.

In my opinion I think that a dog is the best pet because they are loyal and they protect you. If you are more of an exotic, different person, I think the pet you should choose should be like a parakeet or a colorful parrot.

That depends entirely on your opinions and preferences, as well as many other factors. For example, a goldfish would be suitable for the smallest apartment, and are relatively cheap to keep and low-maintenance. On the otherhand, a horse would take massive amounts of $$$ and space, time, and effort.
Hamsters, rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits are on the lower end of the maintenance spectrum. Dogs and cats are about middle.

A fire-breathing dragon.
He'll keep the neighbor's dogs from barking to much and keep the neighbor kids off you lawn.
But watch out for guys in armor who carry swords, they're a big threat to the health of your pet dragon.

There is no such thing as a "best" pet - it all depends on what you like, and what will work for your house/apt. I personally prefer any furry animals ... I have 2 dogs, a cat and a lop-eared bunny. Yes, my house is a zoo, but I love it! :)

Fish.
Yes I realize you can't hold them or cuddle or play(usually)
But they don't bite, shed, puke or wake you in the middle of the night and they still need cared for so they are a distraction from the crap of the world. If you keep the tank clean they don't stink and the sound of running water and watching them swim is relaxing.
