It takes more than just having sex to get pregnant- there are several other physiological things that have to happen. Not only do you have to ovulate, but you also have to know WHEN you ovulate, and have sex on the few days before or on ovulation. Your cervix has to be open and low. You have to have the right type of discharge (Egg White Cervical Mucous) to carry the sperm up to your egg.
Iit's kinda like all the stars aligning the right way. Some people just luck out, others try really hard and chart their temperatures, check mucous, etc. and still have a hard time figuring out when they ovulate, etc.
I would highly recommend reading Taking Charge of your Fertility by Tony Weschler and charting your temperatures each morning to tell when you are ovulating. You will see a pattern and then can predict the next month when best to concieve. You might find that you have uncommonly long cycles, thus ovulating less frequently,or perhaps not even at all. If you eventually do see a doctor about this, your chart is a really great tool for them to see what your cycle is like.

how long have you been trying? are your periods regular? if you do have regular periods you should be able to chart out the days that you ovulate.. you can either use the ovulation kits, or you can take your temperature every morning before getting out of bed and when it is higher, this means you are ovulating. then would be the time to try. if you have been trying for months to no avail then you should talk to your gyno and then get referred to a fertility clinic. there is also a test that they can do for you after you have your period and it increases your fertility for a few months after the test (i forget what it's called, but it's something where they insert something into your tubes and make sure they are open and working properly). hope this helps... also, try to lay down for awhile after sex, the semen needs to work it's way into your cervix... if you get up right away, it won't go up, but come back down.

I wish I knew what the rest of the situation was so I could offer better advice. All I can say is that you should take your concerns to the doctor. Were you on some kind of birth control that uses hormones, such as the pill, patch or depo provera? It can take up to two years for the hormones to "leave" your system, especially if you were on it long term.

his sperm count could be low. you could be having sex when you are not ovulating. what does you doctor say? don't worry about it seems to be the best way to get pregnant. my grandmother tried for 7 years. they wanted a baby so bad but no luck so they took a niece to raise. had her 6 months and wa-la a baby was conceived. mom had a severely tilted uterus. i have a tilted uterus after my1 baby was born. because of the birth my uterus went backwards - tried again but never could. at least i had one. there are all sorts of reasons why. call your ob-gyn and go from there.

Mother nature takes long for some people. If you have tried for a year without conceiving, go see your gym and ask for help.

There are so many reasons. Wrong time of month, being over weight/under weight, being ill, mens underwear are too tight. I don't know how long you have been trying but if it has been a long time then I would see a fertility doctor.

It is very common for it take a while to get pregnant. You may want to check with your doctor to determine the best time for you to conceive -- here's another tool to help determine when your optimum time is to get pregnant: http://www.babycenter.com/calculators/ovulation/
Also, here's a link on other things you may want to consider: http://www.babycenter.com/preconception
