Do not feed infants less than one year old honey. Honey can cause infant botulism. Honey used in cooking and baking is dangerous, too. The botulism spores that cause illness are not destroyed by regular cooking methods.

Honey cannot be purified or pasteurized. Because of this there is a possibility of getting some form of botulism. They advise that children not eat honey until they are over the age of 3.

It isn't. And it doesn't cause *botulism*, either. There is an extremely low possibility that a baby who eats honey would get infant botulism (which is as different from botulism as measles is from German measles), but almost all babies survive with no long-term problems. A baby only has a 1 in 40,000 chance of getting infant botulism at all, and the vast majority of these are from soil or dirt and *not* from honey. It is recommended that babies not be given honey because of a tiny risk--and honey isn't needed anyway.

It's not- honey has natural pollens that could trigger allergic reactions and some upprocessed honey may have bacteria which can cause infections. Simply good parenting to keep honey away until 1 year of age.

Some honey can be contaminated with botulism.
The problem is, you don't know which one until you've eaten it. Not a problem for adults, but fatal to infants.

Because it contains a small amount of botulism. It's a safe amount for most adults to consume, but enough to make a baby severly ill or even kill them.
