I think weddings should be about sharing that moment in time with friends and family, therefore when I got married we got married at the hall where the reception was held that way everyone was there, and my friends and family helped cook, set up a buffet, and decorate and my uncle took pictures.

The cost was minimum, bartender, DJ, 2 cleanup people, and booze.

Everyone came, enjoyed themselves, and shared the special day with us.

Get two people (your mom or his, friend, or coworker, your man). a small group of people who respect your ideas and won't argue with you

Make your own invitations on the computer. They have kits for that that even include the cards to print on...only invite 50 people.

Pick somewhere free (park, friend's house, etc) Use a digital camera, or have disposable cameras on every table for guests.

make your own decorations (Michael's has square mirrors, shallow bowls, and floating candles. They also have silk flower garlands and table favors like mints and tiny blowing-bubble bottles instead of rice, and stuff you can put on a cake) They also have cool hair clips and combs....

go to your favorits grocery store or subway and have them make up some deli-meat, cheese, and friut trays, (stuff eveyone eats and can be on a buffet table) and a cake or "cake tree" made of a variety of cupcakes. several different wines or a punch bowl....

Make your dress with a friend or look for white prom dresses/evening gowns. Have guys shop for matching shirt and ties instead of tuxes.

Bring an amp and speakers with a cd player, play mix cd's or swing jazz......everyone likes swing dancing.....

decorate a white birdcage with silk flowers for people to drop "card gifts" into (cards containing checks) and set atop a gift table.

this whole thing should take about three days to throw together, cost under $700 (depending on your dress and the food). You might spend $1000.

The whole idea is that this is YOUR day to stand before witnesses and declare that I PICKED HIM/HER to be with.....

It does not have to be a big pretentious party just to please others. lots of people don't know half of their wedding guests, have anxiety attacks during the planning, and become bridezillas because they want everything perfect.

It's about the marriage, not the wedding for you right?

Be proud of a smaller, more intimate get together for you two and the people that matter to you most. Don't worrying about going into debt to impress people you don't know, care about, or will neveer see again......

have fun with your man if he wants to help you plan this....

skip the releasing of the doves, swans, or other birds. though symbollic and beautiful, no one wants bird poop on their heads or on their shoes.......

Go to the judge or the local mayor if you honestly want nothing much.
They'll do the service for very little (usually a donation) and from there, you can make the ceremony as big or small as you want it to be!

afternoon, not evening
limit the guest numbers
suggest a theme on the invite
make your own cake
make your own invites
don't do a lot of decorating, just pick a beautiful outdoor setting
photocopy programs instead of custom printing
Host the rehearsal dinner (ex burrito bar) vs. dining out

Justice of the Peace then have a party at your house afterward. No hassle from the ceremony and everyone gets to party after.
