You're in Jr. High. Don't worry about this messy stuff for a couple more years! Once you're there, you're going to have to put yourself out there. You know, put your balls on the line. Speak to her, be nice, talk about whatever you have in common. Girls like self-confident gentlemen. Different girls are attracted to different kinds of guys. Make sure you're going after the quality kind, not the superficial kind. Again, wait a while before they emerge from kid-hood.

take it easy.. be sweet, kind but best of all be yourself.. don't get a GF just to have one because you might make the wrong choice.. but make good friends with a girl that you might be intersted in because a girl doesnt only want a BF but also a guy that could be her best friend. So dont rush into anything

Smile and say, how was your summer. She will tell you, you will talk about what you did. If she smiles and has a hard time leaving then she wants to talk more, if she makes up an excuse to leave, its not the right time for her. 5th grade is too early realy. But for friendship thats ok.
