This may seem like a weird question and maybe i am over reacting but...It seems to me like my 2 month old son avoids making eye contact with me. When i call his name or make faces at him he will look all around but wont look into my eyes or at my face. My husband says his eye sight is still developing but i never had this happen with my first child. Am i crazy or is something wrong? Please help!

I hear signs of autism dont show untill 6 months of age. I hope this isnt the case, I hope and think i am most likely over reacting! But is there some kind of test he could get for autism or will i just have to wait to see if he shows signs?

Is your first child a boy or a girl? I saw on a show (20/20, I think it was) that boys make less eye contacts with their moms than girls.

The first thing I thought of when you said your child won't make eye contact, is Autism. The reason? Because I have an Autistic son and children with Autism will not make eye contact. Chances are it's just taking time for your son's eyes to adjust. Give it time. When in doubt, talk to your child's dr.
This doesn't mean your child has Autism. I'm just mentioning this for a "heads up" just in case. Watch your child's development and keep record of first milestones and temperments. That always helps.
Signs of Autism:
(Children will usually just have a few of the symptoms)
Doesn't like to be held much (this can start from infancy)
Seems to have a lack of pain or overly sensitive
tip toe walking
avoids eye contact
late to talk or suddenly stops talking
instead of talking does baby babble (way past the age of baby babble)
echolalia-(repeating a question instead of answering it)
knows no danger
Self stimming-self stimulation (biting self, head banging, hitting self, slamming whole body into door, jumping from a height onto knees, ect.)
attached to odd objects-might carry around a string for hours
extremely hyperactive-(more than normal. My son was in constant motion at two years old and would run through the house knocking stuff down when bored.)
Does your child watch objects when you move them?
Does your child make eye contact with anyone else?
Keep a record of all this as it will help if you talk to your child's dr.

it is still to early to tell but it could be anearly sign of Autism. My son has it and there are differnt levels of it.
IT IS OK if that is it for there are lots of things out there to do to help. First read up about it 2 talk to your docter about it on his next visit 3 do not push it under the rug for it does not just go away 4 it may be a challange if this is what it is butit is also a joy 5 it is a learning experiance for all. 6 do not fret about the small stuff it will come in its own time 7 a special child for a special mom and a special dad. that is the bwst way to look at it.
or get a hearing test to see if maybe he has a hearing problem

I'm not a doctor, but I do watch a lot of scientific programming and I read more than someone probably should. It's probably nothing, and I'm sure your baby is healthy, but lack of eye contact in a child, specifically where they will look away when you try to get their attention, is a sign of a condition called autism. Autism has varying degrees of intensity and is a social condition wherein the person is unable to emotionally or mentally connect with reality. If it were my child and this were a noticeable happenstance, I would take him to a neurologist just to see if everything was OK. Good luck to you and yours.

just keep an eye on him. If you're worried, go to your pediatrician. that is just one of the signs of autism. Not talking is another. I would take him to the doctor. As a mother, it's troubling you. At least you are smart enough to notice things like that. Go to a doctor, and ease your mind. If something is wrong, at least you'll catch it early., and catch it in time to do something about it. With autism, it needs to be found by 3 yrs. and you are way ahead of that!

autism is hard to diagnose, there isn't just a test or two you can run. If you are really concerned call your Dr.
I once called the Dr because my 2 1/2 yr old was blinking funny- I felt like an idiot calling and even more when they had me bring him in but the Dr said she was proud of me for noticing this behavior because that is how some ppl have seizures and parents never notice. He turned out to be fine but I learned call the Dr even if you feel stupid, it can't hurt!

He's fine. If you are worried about something like autism, you would not see problems with eye contact at this point. The earliest sign usually noted is a lack of the social smile, which does not come for many months yet. Many babies do not make eye contact at 2 months.

Hey, I would not not worry at all i have four kids and although my 2 girls never did it i had a set of twin boys and one of them did the same thing. I would talk to him and try to get his attention but he would look everywhere but me or i would catch him out of the corner of my eye staring at me and if i turned my head to look at him he would quickly look away. He is 9 months now and i have no problems with him or with his twin so i would not worry just be patient he will on his own time stare you down.
I hope this helps you.

no you are not crazy or wrong. I have read a ton of articles since delivering my daughter in Dec of 2006....Studies all noted that newborns DO NOT have COLOR vision. they will focus on contrast instead of color (i.e.- your hairline meeting your face) the contrast between two colors is far more interesting at this point. Additionally your husband is right the ocular muscles are weak at this point so..... the little man is learning to see, focus will come sooner than you think. Congrats on the new arrival!!!!

Babies can't really focus in on things until about 4 months old.
Nothing is wrong, calm down! Your baby senses you are upset. He knows your voice and feels your touch he will make eye contact soon enough and then you wil see a big smile on his face knowing your his mother. Some babies take longer than others all childern develope differently. Have fun and give him a Angel Kiss for me.
