Last february (2006) I was skiing and I fell backwards hitting my head on hard ice. The first aid place said I probably had a minor concussion. I never went to the doctor for it or anything, but I kept getting headaches for 2-3 weeks after. But right now, my head hurts a lot where I hit my head, in the right lower back of my head. Why? And should I do anything about it? I wasn't unconscious at all but I could barely walk straight and got really dizzy after I fell.

I think that you should go to your doctor right away to be checked out. You probably need to get some x-rays done being that you had headaches and are still feeling pain. Any time a person has any trauma to the head you have to get medical attention right away.

Since you did not become unconscious when you hit your head, there is a virtually no chance that you suffered a brain injury such as a hematoma or any bleeding of the brain. It sounds like you have post-concussion syndrome, which can cause headaches, dizziness, numbness, tingling, and even personality changes and memory problems that can persist for months after a concussion. A headache at the back of the head is a common finding in post-concussion syndrome. There is no treatment other than symptom management, such as pain relievers for headaches. Diagnosis is made by assessing the history of the accident and the symptoms, post concussion syndrome won't show up on an x-ray, a CAT scan or an MRI. Even if you had caused a minor skull fracture when you fell (highly unlikely), it would have healed by now and would not explain your headaches now. The good news is that you don't sound like you have any brain damage, and your symptoms will eventually go away on their own.
