was he a poor kid, from a poor family? Did he come from nothing? Did his talents cause him great wealth?

He was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery, and the whereabouts of his ashes are unknown, although some believe them to have been dispersed into Lake Geneva. The remaining members of Queen founded The Mercury Phoenix Trust and organized The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. He left £500 000 to his chef, £500 000 to his personal assistant, £100 000 to his driver and £500 000 to his partner, Jim Hutton. Mary Austin, his life-long friend, inherited the estate and now lives there with her family.

Freddy left all his wealth to some woman, in England. Those were the rumors I heard. Dont know how much truth was in that rumor

I wouldn't doubt it, he's Freddie Mercury from Queen.. that in itself would gain you a heafty income.
