First of all Kobe is on the team, he's recovering from surgery. Duncan declined i believe. There is a defined systematic approach this time. We've seen what happens if we continue to send allstars. The difference with the Dream Team was they were Superstars. The best we have today are not all Superstars. This is a good collection of talent. We've got enough scorers, defenders, and raw talent like D-Wade the King and Melo to get the job done. Like Mike, there will never be another Dream Team. Here's why - even if you collect more talent or athletic ability, his level of intesity, aggression, and WILL TO WIN will be hard to match due to the circumstance he had to go through to get a title. You look at the Dream Team, each one of those guys were unique due to thier career paths. This is a good team this year though, but due to the selection process, they knew going in this team would come close to the dream team. How could you with guys like Shane, Heinrick, and Bowen. This is a TEAM, not a collection of talent. They'll probably be unbeatable come '08

You guys may say that the 92 team would overwhelmingly defeat the current team because they went undefeated and slaughtered their opponents, but you also have to take in the fact that international basketball was not up to par with the NBA back then and there were hardly any international players in the NBA. Since then, international players have upped their game and many have even done very well in the NBA, the USA team is without a doubt still better than the international teams, but those international teams are slowly catching up. I think both teams were very, very good and I think the 92 team would win, but it wont be a crushing defeat as you all say it will be.

No USA team will EVER compare to the Dream Team. That's why they were called the Dream Team, you could only dream of a team like that. There are too many players with egos now. Back then that team didn't care about how many minutes they played or who started, they put all that behind them and said let's go over there and prove a point, and that's what they did. You will never get a great team like that again. BTW everyone on that team was an all-star/ superstar. Think about it.

Ha. Well maybe you should think about something first...Iverson was not invited for several reasons which I am tired of discussing so I wont. Secondly, you have to remember that some players could turn down the invitation to camp. Thirdly, this is a 4 year committement. Why invite Shaq? He wont be any good for Beijing in 2008. Fourthly, the roster we have now for the FIBA tournament is not the entire roster.
Kobe Bryant, Chauncey Billups, Shawn Marion, Paul Pierce, and a few others were left off of the roster for this tournament due to multiple reasons. Bryant and Pierce are having surgery. Billups is staying home with his pregnant wife, and so on.
Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Elton Brand, and Brad Miller provide a presence down low. Wade, LeBron, and Melo can score. Paul and Hinrich are excellent point guards. Bowen and Battier are terrific defensive stoppers and role playing players.
Oh and I will give you ONE reason why Iverson wasnt invited: He takes 30 shots to score 30 points.
Please do your research before posting something and looking like a fool.
EDIT- Wow. I just read someone who said Steve Nash should be on the USA team and couldnt believe he was left off the roster. Wow. I am in utter shock. Hey, whoever wrote that Nash should be on the team...please, do your research as well before making a fool out of yourself. Steve Nash is Canadian....wow...

First of all, it's called the Dream Team for a reason...there'd have to be a player that comes around who was as good or better then Jordan to have a Dream Team in the first place, and second of all, it's not USA's fault, a lot of those guys don't wanna be on the team, or they don't want people like AI cause he wouldn't work well in Krzyzewski's system...and at this point Kidd shouldn't even be considered on the team and Nash should be on it right away, and you need Amare Stoudamire instead of rasheed wallace

Kobe's injured. Duncan isn't American. He's from the virgin islands. Billups is good on the Pistons, but all he can do is drain three's. And not everyone actually accepted the invitations. Some people have plans for the off-season. That's why the current team is so young. They got nothing better to do.

your team is quite an assemblance of superstars. and it had been proven that a collection of superstars who can't work together, can not win a ball game. the current usa team is a collection of players who are willing to work together, share the ball and put aside any personal agenda.
we have to admit that the world is catching up (skilwise) with the americans. while the young generation of american seems to be more and more interested in doing and1 stuff.not saying that it is completly a wrong doing, but they are cutting the basics and jump to the fancy stuff.

the current team may not be the best team that they coudl have put together today. most of them are not in their prime. but give it a few years (this is a long term commitment) and you will have the best team possible (maybe then they can be compared to teh Dream Team). also, this team dont have all the pieces yet but they should in the future. most glaring missing piece is a great shooter like Ray Allen.

This team doesn't compare to the Dream Team. Shaq, Duncan and Garnett were invited, but turned down the invitations. Can't blame USA Basketball for that one. You can't send the best if the best doesn't want to go.

another day=== same question. why does someone ask this every day????
the original wanted to play together and go make a statement to the world. several superstars- like Kobe and Shaq, claim to be injured. and dont play. some just say NO. then they scrounge up other players.
SHould Reddick be on the squad, hell no, Hinrich, hell no. Reddick has yet to prove himself. he just got a DWI and he gets to play on the team.
because of the Racist Coach Thompson of Georgetown the man who stated " no white guy was good enough to play for him" lost our games. WHy did we lose when he coached. Because he as the coach of the US team, said he wanted Alonzo Mourning not to play, cause he wanted him ready for his Hoyas. why was he the coach of the US team, but not doing what was best for US> he even said Morning should have played.
QUIT ASKING THE SAME DAMN QUESTION ! ! ! !
