I heard a really upbeat one by Transfixion (visit their myspace to hear it) which I liked, except they have a really weird asianish accent. But then again the acoustic slower versions are good too. So what can you recommend? Both upbeat and acoustic are appreciated.

(I don't want the Judy Garland one)

Iz s version is lovely but after a while I find that damn ukulele rather nauseating so I prefer Eva Cassidy s timeless version every time.

You are talking about the Hawaiian singer Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole
the title to the cd is "It's Iz world" and yes, the rest of the cd will grow on you. I can sing the whole cd.

I think the Ramones did one - they use it as the theme song for a cable TV show. It sounds cool. I never would have thought that song could rock.

I just remembered - its on the HBO show with the taxicab confessions.

Try the version by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole. It has a Hawaiian flair to it. Quite nice.

have you heard katharine mcphee sing "somewhere over the rainbow"? its really beautiful - not exactly really original, but a really amazing, classical voice.
