I'm trying to find a nice place to hang out for the day, either romantic and/or fun. Any good spots out there?

You could stop for a visit at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon and take one of the tours (make reservations beforehand):

Stop at Santa Barbara and explore State Street.

Stop for lunch at Anderson's Pea Soup in Buellton.

Stop at the Madonna Inn and spend the night.

To name a few.

You could go to Stone's Town (the mall) in SF. Their is a nice food court, upstairs. For a great lunch, there's Gobble And Squat on Corner of West Portal and Portola. For dinner, there are some choices on West Portal, including Round Table and Paradise Pizza. The Bull Head is good, too. YOu get to watch through the window, standing outside, as they cook the burgers.

In-n-Out in Kettleman City always moved my heart when on the road. If you are driving on the coast, stay at a B&B in Big Sur, or stop by Carmel-by-the-Sea, the town Clint Eastwood used to be mayor of. If you are driving up I-5... really, the In-n-Out is about it....

Monterray. They have (in my opinion) the world's best aquarium and my family and I have spent many hours there. They also have wonderful food on the wharf. We love Old Fisherman's Grotto. Their clam chowder is to die for.
