I use light weights and it still happens. This is the only muscle I work out that has pain. Is this normal to happen? Does this ever happen to you?

Pain in any exercise is NOT normal and if you continue it could lead to a tear in the muscle or ligament.

What you should do is talk to your dr. If you're having pain, it's for a reason. There could already be something going on that you've not yet found.

If the dr. gives the gohead, then I would suggest talking to a personal trainer who can tell you what to use, other than the shoulder press, to get the results you want.

No exercise should ever cause you major pain like that.

It sounds like you may have injured your rotater cuff. I did that once. It is easier to do than you think. The shoulder press, especially behind the neck presses, put a lot of pressure on your rotater cuff. I switched to various lateral shoulder raises until it healed. Try some sets of dumbell front, lateral, and rear raises for a while. These bring out nice detail while being less taxing on the shoulder complex.

shoulders are very delicate - used light dumbbells instead of pressing with barbells and focus on range of motion instead of pressing - good luck
