I chatted with "SWEET BABY JAMES" (Taylor) over TEA and LATTE' in the cafe of an "outdoor shop" ...about 'FIRE and RAIN'...and how "MUDSLIDE SLIM" got me and FRIENDS thru a summer in FRANKFURT, GDR.
We talked as if "old-friends" were singing "ISN'T IT NICE TO BE HOME AGAIN". I was visiting,...and he WAS HOME!
Favorite song by JT....from my FRIEND "Ricky"...."MACHINE GUN KELLY" - "Watch out Machine-Gun...don't let it git'cha DOWN...don't let a woman put you six-feet in the GROUND!
The only thing missing...A 'POT-BELLIED' STOVE.
ONE of my FAVORITE DAYS IN LIFE...so far!

Absolutely hands down it has to be Big Bird!
I met the gentleman who plays Big Bird at Ashford Castle in Ireland! His name is Caroll Spinney. He was vacationing there with his wife.
I don't normally approach famous people since I really think they deserve their space. But I had my then 8 month old son with me and I just could not resist. He did the Big Bird voice for him too.
I was most interested to ask him what it had been like to work with the late Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets. His face lit up describing how much fun they had had over the years. Traveling the world with the Muppets who were much beloved by everyone. (Who can forget the image of Big Bird walking on the Great Wall of China!)
I suppose you'll pick someone who met a famous rock star or sports figure but I'll always cherish my, and my son's visit with this tall gentle man.

I was 12 when I got to meet Nelson Rockefeller and Spiro Agnew. Agnew was campaigning and visited Upstate NY. My mother was a "die-hard" Republican (shudder) and I was recruited to don a "Nixon/Agnew" poncho and stand on the platform as Agnew swept by with the then Governor of NY, Rockefeller. My mother was in 7th Heaven and I was wishing I was home watching The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family.
