When setting up your schedule in college don't just look at the number of credits but the type of classes you are taking. If you are taking 18 credits of mostly advanced science classes, then you might want to step back. If you're taking 18 credits and most of them are electives, then you would probably do well.

Judging from personal experience, 18 hours is a little too much. Let's get this straight, high school & college is COMPLETELY different. You actually HAVE to study! This is your first year to get the feel of the campus, join organizations, start a great social life and have fun. With 18 hours, you won't be able to do ANYTHING. 12-15 hours is about a safe courseload for 1st time freshman. 18 hours is something you do as a junior or senior when you are trying to finish up. However, drop a class and focus on everything. Maintain a solid gpa and have fun. You won't regret it. I know first hand, cuz I was in your place. Good luck!

Depends on the person. My roommate had maybe more than that, but he came in with junior status as a first year student and had technically been going to college while in high school, taking classes at a university, and doing AP, and doing other specialized classes.
I took 14, it was a good amount, second semester I had 17, it was nearly what I could call comfortable. It depends on you, what you think you can do, and the classes. If you have a lab, even though its a 1 credit class, it might take a lot of time. My chem labs my first year took well over 3 hours a week to do, even though it was a one credit class.
Check with your school, talk to students, advisers, and even the prof. Find out when you can drop with a refund, usually at the very very beginning of the semester.
Good luck!

Dude, that's A LOT of credits! Isn't the max like 16 for a standard semester. I did 16 with a music major and about didn't make it through. I switched majors and took the least amount of credits I could. You may want to consider dropping a class or two. Give yourself some time to live a little bit. Sometimes you get to caught up in academic world to see what's really going on around you. Balance life lessons and academics. So YES TOO MANY!

If you are a motivated student, then 18 credits is not too much. Just be honest with yourself about whether you can handle the load. Some freshman courses aren't that difficult, so you may have it easy. However, if you are taking English, Calculus, Biology, etc...all at once, you may have a huge workload.

I've done it before many times. Depending on the difficulty of your courses, it can either be a piece of cake or very painful. Your freshman year can determine how much you can handle a semester, and it may not always be pretty. If it gets to be too much, drop a class so you're down to 15.

Yes, as a freshman you need to pace yourself. Learn the ropes first and then take more later.
I'd do no more than 15 right now. Good luck to you, remember if you burn out you're not getting any further ahead.
Boring, but slow and steady wins the race. Also, you're GPA will be better in the long run.

for your first term i would not take 18 credits... it is possible to do with no life and staying up 24/7. I would take 12 credits and see how it works for you. if you find it easy then burn baby burn take the 18 :) I took 9 a term - i worked too. SLow? yes it was but worth it.

For a lot of people taking a lot of hours is a good thing because it will keep you focused on your classes because that is really your job when you are at school. But if you don't take a good load of classes you have a lot of time to waste and that means you get into a lot of things that don't help you when you are at college. Take the most you can and still do well. That is my advice.

Depends on how smart you are and how dedicated you are to finishing your degree. I averaged 19-20 credit hours and still graduated cuum laude.
Don't take less than 15 unless you're involved in other college activities.
