Binary notation is by 2's. Decimal notation is by 10's.

You are taught to think in base ten notation. I assure you that if you were taught to think in base 2 (binary), or base 8 (Octal), base 10 (decimal) would seem very foreign!

1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,4096 are the progressions of binary by the square of the number.

Oh, and, I can count in binary, with my mittens and shoes ON!

In computers everything is in binary (0's and 1's) so instead of going up in multiples of 10 (10, 100, 1000 etc) it goes up in multiples of 2 - 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024

because 1024 bytes equals 1 kilobyte, 1024KB = 1MB, 1024MB=1GB, 1024GB = 1TB

but the real reason is because, all are pretty close to a terminating answer when divided by 1024 (1 GB). and when you get to 1GB (1024 MB), it equals a 1, which proves that 1GB = 1024MB
