I answer for a couple of reasons - either someone needs help with finding information and I have the answer for them or hopefully some advise that I have learned along the way that I can pass on.
Or two - just some questions are funny and I feel like answering with a funny answer - depends on my mood on certian days.

I'm a teacher, so it must be in my DNA or something. I can't help myself!
Besides, it's enjoyable to be helpful, and some of the questions here are from people who really DO need some sound advice. It's not ALL generated by children trying to get their homework done by other people. (Though, to be honest, I've been tempted to answer a few of those incorrectly just to be a ...well, you know. But I've never done it).

Its fun to be helpful. It makes me feel smart to share what I know. Sometimes I learn things too. Most of the questions are the similar for this reason, I answer about what I know about and try to avoid ones where I'll seem clueless, because I want to give a good honest answer and certainly don't want to seem like know-it-all.

Sometimes, people need an answer.. or just need to know that someone out here cares - holds the same interest - helps to ease your mind, especially if we give an answer that you've already thought about..

I like to do this in between listening to my online lectures, answering e-mail or while eating or charting late at night at work (I'm a nurse) It's fun and passes the time.

Boasting rights for higher points. Plus, do on to others what you want them to do on to you. I want others to answer my questions.

;) People answer them so they can get points and ask their own questions.
Or maybe their just nice like that.
