Its more about the sound. While the strat is great for some music, my opinion is if you take a Les Paul and Plug it into a marshall, you can play any chord and sound like a god.

I have a strat now and a V by Jackson but would give them up for a LES PAUL anyday of the week. Also the Les Paul has a thicker sound than the strat. Now if they can get a V to sound like a Les Paul that would be great!!

looks aren't everything, go with whichever feels more comfortable. my first guitar was a Les Paul, and i thought it felt and played better than anything 'til i played a stratocaster. i bought that one and then another soon after, and rarely pick up my Les Paul anymore, although i still love it and know it's a better quality instrument, but my strat's just feel better.

I concur. I have a double cut-away Les Paul standard with P-90 pickups that's wonderful, but the Fender is easier to play, sounds better for blues, and cost MUCH less.
Then, my G&L ASAT kicks both of them!
