I think the collection of our experience improves our intuition.
The more you have experienced certain situations, the more you can read/predict similar ones down the road.
So I guess by watching our environment we can make our senses more in tune and understand triggers to results. Our intuition improves because we can make predictions or theorize about similar things. The thing about intuition is that some of the reading of these situations, I think we do a little subconsciously.
Look at parents with a newborn. They are clueless when the baby cries, but in a couple weeks or months they know when to hand the pacifier, change a diaper or rock. Their reactions become intuitive.

If you take the definition of intuition, which is:
a) quick and ready insight and also
b) the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference
...then I believe that it is possible. You could theoretically train yourself to be more 'in tune' with your surroundings and that alone could develop your intuition....this may be a bad example, but take the show Psych on USA...his father developed his brain to possess that photographic memory, which in turn is a form of intuition.
