Vernon Davis is becoming way overrated because he's the highest paid tight end in the NFL. All of a sudden, people expect him to be able to make the 49ers good, but one great player, (and a side note here...when was the last time you saw a rookie go into the NFL and be the best at his position, especially the NFL, which has about only 5 rookies a year live up to the preseason hype) and even if he had peyton manning throwing to him with the rest of the 49ers offense, there's no way that he'll pass Antonio Gates this season, and not even Jeremy Shockey with Eli Manning getting better or Todd Heap with Steve McNair coming in..

Everyone is forgetting that the niners also have a solid TE option in Eric Johnson so Davis will be splitting time with him. With Nolan as coach though, Davis should be getting more and more time as the season progresses. With this split time and a rough quarterback in Alex Smith, there is no way that Vernon Davis leads Tight Ends in yards.

i'd not positioned him there purely yet. yet he absolutely has the flexibility to in that classification of serious TE's contained in the NFL. Ever considering Singletary became the top coach of the 49ers & him & Davis had that incident on the sidelines, Davis has had a change of body of ideas. He performed all proper very last season, ensuing in him making the pro Bowl. at cases he can lose his concentration at the same time as he tries to capture the football, yet he's done a good pastime of engaged on that. He has a change of frame of mind, that has benefited him lots.

Vernon is deffiently a great athlete. But I do not think he will get more yards than guys like Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzales, Jeremy Shockey, and Todd Heap, or even Jason Witten. He will have a good season, give him a couple years than we'll see.

I think he wont be in the top 5. You've got... Antonio Gates, Jason Witten, Tony Gonzalez, and Todd Heap. Plus Alex Smith is a garbage quarterback.

As a 49er...now way.....Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates will beat him out, those two are simply amazing. If Alex Smith can get his $hit together, Davis might be able to compete with those two....but I don't see it happening.

eventually, yes. This year no. The key word is rookie. He will also see a lot of coverage from defenses when he is on the field.
