and when they attempted to tape over it, the end of the film always managed to hang around, usually before Quint got bit in half

Ha! Great and too true of an observation! Oh yes, I remember the days of the rein of the trusty VHS.

We gathered quite a collection of 'Straight-from-the-telly' films over the late 80's and 90's (could always tell because the tracking and audio going haywire midway through the film) including: Jaws, Close Encounters, Rosie n Jim, E.T - which began about quarter of a way through the film.

I always wondered why, when watching that film, E.T was suddenly just 'there' and following a trail of skittles to this boy's house. Strange indeed.

That made me laugh by the way! I think all can relate to that!

Yes indeed. I also have what is probably a fake memory of it - when i was 5 watching Jaws on the television I was sure there was a scene showing the upper half of Quint's body floating under water. Probably never happened though.

Yeah I was only allowed to watch Jaws on TV because a lot of the blood and swearing was edited out - mom didn't like me watching R-rated movies before I was about 11.

I think we had a similar tape like that, maybe because that movie is longer than other ones when they show it on TV?

Is it just the one room you live in with your telly ? You order pizza in and you're not sure when it's day or night - is that about right ?
