Depends... when companies that sell storage devices say their hard drives, etc, have 1 gb storage, they mean exactly 1000 mB, and 1 mB means 1000 kB and 1 kB means 1000 B. But when your computer says that a file takes up 1 gB of space, it means 1024 mB, 1 mB is 1024 kB, and 1 kB is 1024 B. That's why when you plug in your 1 gB USB flash memory it isn't really 1 gB. It's a little less. In other words, vendors are trying to make us think their storage devices have more capacity than a computer actually says it has.

Like limitedmage says, its dependent. Some vendor says their 1Gb HD=1000 Mb, and others 1024 Mb.
