Your daughter better ask her teacher what decended means? Its a new word for me, but then I'm an Immigrant. If it means depth, it's got to be a foolish question since whales will never dive this deep. They need air to breath.

"Kilo-......-meter"......
"kilo" means "thousand".
So a kilometer is a thousand meters.
So 3000 meters is 3 kilometers.
And I'm sorry, but if your daughter is having a problem with that question she may be in the wrong class or have completely the wrong teacher...
Best wishes.
