I am curious - for all these cries of "bring home the troops", will anyone actually go from viewing President Bush as "unfavorable" to "favorable" if he announced the troops would come home by, say, the end of the year, and they did? Or would the people who disapprove of Bush now still disapprove, but only give a different reason?

No, the left will always complain, no matter what happens.

After Bush 41 stopped short of ousting Saddam by force in the 1991 Gulf War, the left complained that he didn't 'finish the job'...

When Bush 43 "finished the job" by getting Saddam out of there, the left complained that we had no business going in (despite the fact that Saddam had thumbed his nose at their precious U.N. for twelve years, and Bush 43 was only enforcing the 17 resolutions that the U.N. passed, threatening 'stronger action' if Saddam didn't comply with U.N. resolutions... )

Besides, Bush does what he believes is the right thing to do.... polls mean nothing, except on election day.

Clinton believed in nothing but polls, which is a strong indication of his complete and utter indecisiveness.

Another PERFECT example... since 2001, all we've heard from the left is "Where's Osama? How come we haven't got Osama yet?".

Just prior to the 2004 election, a number of Democrats in the Senate and the House were worried that Osama had been captured! (They were afraid that Osama was under wraps, but that Bush wouldn't announce it until shortly before the 2004 elections)... so the left complains if bin Laden ISN'T caught, but then, they complain if they think he IS caught, because that would hurt them politically! Heck with what's best for the country!

You can't ever 'win' liberals over...so don't bother trying...

Just do the right thing.

They would probably spike up about 20 points if he announced that they were coming home immediately. The reason it wouldn't be higher is that there are people that won't be satified with anything he does, whether they agree with it or not. Only the non-affiliated independents who do not support the war would be swayed, most likely.

Btw, that point spike would go down over the next few months until it settled at about 8 or 10 points higher than present.

In short, a little of each.

bush shouldn't bring the troops home for approval idiot!!!!

he needs to do it because it is the right thing to do!!!!! who gives a shite about favorable when people are dying, when we have to "stay the course" because bush can't figure out how to win in Iraq, and most of all because it is not our freedom we are fighting for!!!!!!!!!

of course not...if the president rose people from the dead...walked on water...found the ultimate cure for cancer...eradicated world hunger...the left-wing moon-bats would still hate him.
