Oooh... If I had to go for one I would go for Jethro Tull.
But if I was allowed a few more the Manic Street Preachers, Queen, the Smiths, and Nightwish would all be there with several others.

Id say the Flaming Lips last three albums have reached an extremely high level of quality. There as original as the Beatles.
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is really quite amazing

As for both, Brian Wilson finally completing 'Smile' with his band.
