You boil potatoes and mash them while slowly adding milk or cream and butter. Some people peel the potatoes first, but that just takes out all the nutrients. Some thoroughly wash the potatoes (recommended for any recipe) and just mash them up without peeling. I boil them and then peel them as close to the skin as possible while they are still very warm. Don't let the potatoes get cold or you will have many lumps! Some people use food processors (I don't have one.)
You could just buy a box of Hungry Jack and follow the directions!Scratch the box first so that if anyone asks if they are homemade you can just smile and say, "Yep, I made them from scratch!"

Peel 1 pot per person. I like to use white potatoes. Cut them up into golf ball size chunks and place in a pan,add enough water to cover the pot. Turn on high to get to boiling and then reduce to med. Cook about 8 min or tender(hard water will take longer).Drain water, mash the potatoes with fork or masher( or use mixer if you want whipped smoother and lighter pot. I like mashed best). and add butter, milk, salt and pepper to taste. On porportions it is a little bit of a guess. 2 medium pot-approx 1 or 2 Tblsp butter & 1/4 c milk. 2 large pot. 3 T.butter and 1/3 c milk. I like plenty of salt but you will need to suit your taste. Don't worry about the white foam that sometimes comes to the top of the pan when boiling the pot.,just drain it well when they are tender. My cousin had just got married and I stopped to see her late one afternoon. She was preparing supper and was in a franic because she thought she had ruined the pot. just by boiling them and she didn't have anymore to make!! She is a character and I laughed so hard! Best wishes!

Cut however many potatoes you need into little pieces and let them boil until tender. Drain the water when they're done and mash them up. Add milk (or chicken broth) butter, and salt to taste. Too add extra flavor, you can add garlic, cheese, or bacon.

Buy country crocks real idaho mashed potatoes in a tub. Microwave for five minutes. They are great and much easier to make.

wash, peel and quarter idaho potatoes, put in a pot and fill with water - salt and boil until fork tender about 30 mins - drain - add butter, salt & pepper and a bit of milk - mash (I like an old fashioned hand masher - but hand mixer will do) and voila - season again if necessary

The key is butter!

You peel and boil the potatoes and then add milk to make it mushy if you like creamy style, salt to flavor but remember to add a wad of butter in there for some good eatin'
