I mean: a ship is a thing so we should refer to her like "it"...but we use SHE !!!

For the same reason cars and just about everything else mechanical is called she. Men like to tinker with mechanics and women. They like to try to take them apart and try to put them back together. It doesn't always work!

Because at the time the captain of a ship was a male and they treated their ships better than they treat anything else.

Because having a women onboard was bad luck back in the pirate days! and captain has always been a man! so naming after his love was always been a tradition. We love protecting our love! She is always reffered

I think it comes from other languages whre they make a distinction between regular objects. like spanish' el libro (the book is a he) and la mesa (the table is a she)
