I don't know why there is a judgment here.
A friend is looking for information on her estranged daughter.

I won't try to trample over what the other answerers have already said, but I will at least offer you one more consideration. Even if you found a database that documents a particular person married (for instance, let say in 2004), there is no database other similar resource that would answer the question whether that person is still married or not. And if you had access to such a database to see if someone took out a marriage license, you'd have another concern to verify it's not someone with the same name, etc. In the California county that I live in, you can sit at a computer at the Recorder's Office and query marriage license data, but you cannot obtain a result unless you input the full names of both bride and groom. Law enforcement has access to databases that can point to whether someone got married, but not whether they are still married. There are many variables. Best to find another way to find out what you need to know about another person's truthfulness and ethics.

I'm pretty sure marriage certificates and all that are a matter of public record in the state they were married in. You just have to find out what state that is. Don't listen to all the others on here if people were honest we wouldn't have to be paranoid. There is nothing wrong with checking someone out.

a lot of times you can go to the county page of where you think the person is married and click on a search button, or a records button to see the marriage license. just need to know last names or date of births.

I should think such info would be protected by the Data Protection Act, therefore can't be kept on a register open to the general public.

Call the person, pretend to be a sales man and ask to speak to MRS. Or have a friend do it for you.
