What does my support for the separation of church and state have to do with my religious beleifs? Why does that make me liberal? I'm quite conservative on most issues. If we all agree as US citizens that this country is the best place to live free then, isn't the fact that there is a constitutional amendment prohibiting the affiliation of the government with religion a good thing?

Please do not quote the bible to me in your response.

Bluffmike: I would appreciate it if you don't tell me what I think because, you have no clue. Judging by the content of my question (and as much as you could possibly know about me), your assumptions of what I think couldn't be more wrong.

Spoken like a true band-wagon conservative there BluffMike. Here's a clue: Just because you watch Fox and are pro-life, doesn't make you conservative.

Acts 238: I have read the responses that you wrote to your last 10 answers. My only two questions to you are the following: How do you get the internet connection out to your little shack in the woods? Do you have any bomb-making experience in or around Waco or Oklahoma City?

Many Conservatives, and liberals to a lesser extent, have a "you're either with us or against us" mentality. You either agree with everything they think conservatism is about or you are liberal.

I agree with you about the importance of "seperation of Church and State", although that is not directly a right given by the Constitution. The wording "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" is very important. The government cannot "endorse" one religion over another, nor prohibit your ability to worship as you see fit.
Matters of the State cannot be influenced by matters of faith, especially when one faith is endorsed over the tenets of another faith.

I am a Christian AND an American, not a Christian American. The 2 are mutually exclusive...

You are free to worship as you see fit, as long as your freedom doesn't restrict the freedom of another.

Because this was one of the founding liberal (root is "liber" or "free") ideas that made the foundation of our democracy so strong. The First Amendment prevents the state from establishing an official church and guarantees freedom of religion for all.

Without this fundamental right and the separation of church and state, democracy would crumble into theocracy because men and women make the laws in a democracy- not God.

God is not democratic or republican, he's a despot.

Your point is well taken, though. TRUE conservatives recognize the separation of church and state without question because they understand its constitutional foundation. Many modern "conservatives" are just theocrats posing as conservatives. They are usually uneducated with no sense of US history as a result of thinking all the answers are in the Bible. They forget to look at the world history that unfolded after the New Testament up to and including the founding of their own nation.

Most Christians don't even realize that their savior- Jesus Christ himself, was a communist, which apparently in some circles is the same as a liberal (remember the root- liber?).

See Acts, Chapter 4:32-35

{32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.}

a 10 12 months previous toddler ought to understand the writing of the constutition, the founders observed to that, you're superb suited, there is no separation of church and state, regardless of if the atheist dont like it and get superb courtroom judges in that's atheist additionally. It it appears that evidently states as you have entered, That congress shall make no rules respecting no business enterprise of religion, or prohibiting the exercising thereof, there is no case the place they have completed that. The congress isn't the state, thay are regulation makers,

Sorry that you buy into that clap-trap about separation of church and state. The following is from my 'bible': The Constitution of the United States. I hope that you don't mind me quoting it.

This is what the constitution says about religion and the federal government: 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' Amendment 1.

There doesn't have to be a solid brick wall between them. In fact, it suggests that there be an open dialog (free exercise) between the government and many (all) religions.

It's the liberals (mostly) that believe in the wall. They read the constitution as they WISH it were written, not as it was ACTUALLY written.

So, if you believe in separation then many people will think you are a liberal.

Well if you don't want the Bible then you are not concerned with truth.

Your statement is flawed.

Separation of church and state? There is no such thing in the Constitution for the United States.

Next, I know you are not going to like this at all, I am sorry, but the truth is the truth. No one and I mean no one who lives in the UNited States Inc. is free. If you think, you are free I invite you tell how you are free.

Last, maybe people say you are liberal, because
you say what liberals say.

By the way and I don't what to hurt your feelings, but where I live liberals and communist are considered the same thing.

Difference between liberal and conservatives usually boil down to the Consitution of the US. Liberals believe that it is a "living" document that can be changed with time. Conservatives know that it was written in stone and that the Forefathers had great wisdom and foresight in making sure that the government never interfers with how one chooses to worship. State and church separation clause only means the government cannot dictate any one religion. Remember the Revolt against Britian? That was all about religion and a new Republic was born - Welcome to America

If you remove all religion from the government you make Atheism the national religion by default. The founding fathers meant that no one religion should be put above any other. They wanted the government to to remember and honer the morals of religion but not force the people to follow any state religion.

I believe you are correct. The separation of church and state here in the US is one thing that makes this country so good to live in. I am conservative on some issues and not on others. People just want to feel good by calling you names. They are trying to make themselves feel good by trying to make you feel bad.

It doesn't make you liberal. However most liberal people use their belief about church and state and the Constitution to restrict the rights of Christians to behave as Christians. Chose you friends carefully.

Because you think that the ban against a government sponsored church means a ban against the free exercise of religion.
