Yes they are more prone to colds and flu ans even more when they have older sibling(s).When I gave birth to my son my husband came later with are first born daughter to see us and at that time she has had a very runny nose for a while and of course he catch ed the cold from her still in the hospital which was a nightmare because newborn and young babies can't breath through their noses. Now he is already 11 months old and had altogether around 4 colds in that time. When I have had my firstborn she wasn't sick at all but now daughter goes to childcare so she brings nasty staff home so are son catches everything from her but by getting lots of colds and flu they getting more and more immune.

They're never too young to catch any type of illness. This is why it's crucial to have everyone who holds her to wash their hands THOROUGHLY (this includes the parents, also).

Babies are most susceptible right after they're born...for the first several months...until they start developing an immune system.

My second son developed viral meningitis when he was 11 weeks old. It was his first week at daycare, and the other infant this lady cared for had a basic cold. For some reason, even though it caused only a mild cold in this other baby, when my son caught it, it turned into meningitis. (The same virus is responsible for causing many things...anywhere from a cold to a viral lung infection to (in my son's case) meningitis. It really all depends on the baby's immune system. Thank God he pulled through it with no long term effects. 3 days in the hospital and $8,000 later... (Thank God for insurance, right?!)

People are susceptible to viruses and bacteria at any age, but most susceptible the younger they are.

babies are even susceptible in the womb. An organism that will attack humans and human tissue will not discriminate because of age, so it is the immune system in the human that has to fight it off. The mother's immune system helps the baby in the womb, to some extent, through the blood at the placenta, and thru the clean womb environment. And the mother's milk has immune system factors that help the baby. But the baby does not yet have the immune system that older children have or adults, through immunization by experience or vaccine, so they are vulnerable and need to be protected.

Babies are not too young to catch colds and flu.
However, if a baby is breastfed, they tend NOT to catch things like that because they get immunities from the mother's milk.

Babies can catch cold at any time. More likely before they build immunity to things which is part of the reason the hospital limits visitors.

The older you get, the more things you are exposed to, the less likely you are to catch things - except when your immunity is damaged by illness or age.

babies are never to young to catch a cold or the flu. If you breast feed though, they are less likely, as they get important antibodies from the mother's breast milk the first several days.
