Like when someone says: "Color Me Stupid..." What color do they mean?

I think what is being referred to here is, when a person says color me stupid. It means if you were to draw and color a picture of that person, make it look stupid, use any color or combination of colors to make this picture look really stupid.

It's really just using the verb "color" as a metaphor to emphasize the stupidity of the subject and their willingness to accept their stupidity through the act of painting them with the adjective 'stupidity'.
...as in "Color us Republicans stupid who believed all of George W. Bush's lies without thinking for ourselves about the consequences for life, liberty and property."
