I'm listening to the cast recording now, and it's the most amazing thing I've ever heard.

the cast recording from last year's revival--Patti LuPone is actually really good as Mrs. Lovett, despite her atrocious fake accent :)

If you're talking about the recent Tonys, it was up for "Best Revival of A Musical", not "Best Musical", and more voters apparently thought "Pajama Game"with Harry Connick Jr. and Kelli O'Hara was a better overall production. (I.e., they were happier with a revival from the 1950s than one from the late 1970s...)

Not to worry: when it was first out, in 1979, it DID win for Best Musical--that was with Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury! (Both of whom also won; the original production pretty much swept the Tonys, winning 8 out of the 9 awards it was nominated for....)

Becouse it was a not a new show. It's a revival, so can't compete in the Tony Awards for Best Musical, can only go for awards for revivals.

I beleive it was nomanated for some awards in the revival section, but could be wrong. As far as voting, it has to do with the judgeing panel.

It didn't win Best Musical because the show was up for Best Revival.

While Sweeney was good, other shows this year were better. Also, Sondheim is an aquired taste.

Which cast recording? The one from one old one, or the revival from the past year?

truthfully. As a fellow Indiana interior of reach I gotta root for the domicile boys (besides as Gordon). i think of it may be somewhat cool to work out him win as an proprietor/driving force. As replaced into reported earlier, dropping the burden would desire to help him in an endurance attitude besides as overall performance. Tony is unquestionably a funky guy outdoors of racing. yet whilst its time to circulate racing, its enterprise as consistently.
