Why do ppl put down on Goths? Is it b/c they are different? Is it b/c they dont care what others think? I am kinda Gothic and i am always being put down on for it. Most of the ppl that do that dont even know what Goth really is. Like it started in 1981. There isnt just one meaning to Goth. Almost everyone has a different meaning to Gothic. What i dont understand is how can someone put down on someone else just because they are different. (sry if i miss spelled anything)

Well, not everyone is down on them. I was goth when I was in high school in the early 90's. I still like the music, although I don't dress like it anymore.

There is nothing wrong with it, it's just an image style. People are scared of anything different. I would not worry about it. It's cool and who cares what others think?

NOTE: It does not necessarily mean you worship SATAN!

There is a certain personality type that tries to feel better about themselves if they put down others. It makes them feel like they are at least above that one person or group. They tend to choose nicer people to do this to, those people who would not do this to someone else. Take it as a sign that you are too nice to do such an act. Also, check out the article below. It's about how Goth kids tend to turn out a better than average.

You misunderstand.
True, you may be disliked for being different, but not different from what the general style is. More different from individual preference. And maybe what most people think of Goth isn't a very good thing, which could lead to the insults.

Well these old times are over and the Gothic of the past has nothing to do with this style of these days.

Most of the Gothic people I meet these days are more like Satanistic people anyway..

A lot of them love vampires and such crap. Pictures with blood and razorblades....pictures about suicide and etc etc.
Of course is not everyone like that and please don't get offended with what I am saying here.
I just think it's stupid to dress in a gothic way which are mostly dark clothes.. it looks so dead.. so heartless.. no sign of happyness or joy of being alive.
Then most of the Gothic people are actually truely really emotional and sad..
Some even put themselves down.. some cut theirselves..
Disrespect theirself, their soul that could be so much better than that.
Some don't even seem to understand what life is about.. or have no lifegoal.
I don't put them down or such. Actually I am not dealing with any of them.
That are just a few reasons why I dislike them.

Lol! Goth culture is supposed to be a dangerous sub-culture. I went to Download Festival a couple of months ago; most of the people there were long-haired skinny male geeks not sure how to act watching a band (a few nervous head-nods) and most were sexist, pathetically trying to get laid.

Perhaps it's just the obsession with death, and the very pessimistic outlook on life, coupled with the heavy music you listen to.

PS: sorry I don't mean to be so condescending, it's just the way goths treat other people, too

I'm 40,and I don't look down on anyone, really. I had my own jewelry business, and wound up meeting alot of really nice, smart young Goth people. I would get ticked when other people treated them not so nicely because they assumed something because the way they dressed. They were a brother and sister, made straight a's in school, honor roll, and loved each other. When his sister got into a motorcycle accident,he was the one pushing her around everywhere in her wheelchair. Don't know many people like that, much less teens. Who CARES what's on the outside? I've know beautiful people on the outside who were filled with maggots on the inside

It's not because you are different, it is because of an unspoken proverb that "you should make fun of goths". if you're not a goth and you hang around people who aren't goth, they just see "dark colored mean clown" and its a comedy goldmine. I've never met a truly anti-social goth though, and I have goth friends, who I make fun of for being goth on occasion.

First of all, you need to stop capitalizing the word goth. There's nothing proper about it and it doesn't need to be capitalized.

Secondly, goths are nothing but annoying little teenagers who are going through a phase. They'll grow out of it when they mature a little and realize how stupid they look and how retarded they're acting.

I don't really waste my time putting them down because they're pretty much putting themselves down every time they go out looking the way they do. They have no respect for themselves and are most likely on several illegal drugs. But like I said, it's just a phase and they'll grow out of it. Ever see a 50 year-old goth? Yeah, me either.

Same reason I knock preps, jocks, or w.e. Its all about stereotypes. The preps are automatically supposed to hate goths. and goths the preps. I hate the term goth because its a type of archetecture not a flipping style of dress.

I think people are afraid of people that are not in the norm. My kids went Thur the Goth stage and they were no different to me than the people they are today. Just be patient with ignorance, and you Will prevail!!! Good luck!!!!
