Yes.
Sometimes it's easier to go back than to move forward...doesn't always mean it's the right thing to do. But Sylvia had obviously moved on and was making a new life for herself - there had (obviously) been a problem within their relationship - so Sylvia's Mother was just doing what mums do best...putting their childrens welfare above everything else.
Anyway, if Syvia's mother HAD let them talk on the phone - we wouldn't have got to listen to a great song!
What the song DOESN'T tell you is that he found out where Syvlia was going - followed her there - and proclaimed his undying love for her........
She told him to flick off!
