also would it be a "white lie" if someone mentions him/her...and you just said..."oh, i remember her/him vaguely from years ago>."

Both terms can be used interchangeably. It would be inaccurate to call them a friend.

To answer your first question. I guess it depends on how well you knew the person to begin with. I mean if you knew this person really well 25 years ago and for some reason lost touch you still know the basic iner person. Right? As far as your second question I guess only you can truly and honestly say if it is a white lie. It's all about your comfort level. Does it really matter whether someone else knows how well you knew him/her?

well it depends on how well you knew them 25 years ago I guess. If it was someone you talked to every now and again I would say they would be an aquaintance if it was someone you saw but rarely talked to and just maybe spoke in passing and even then it was small talk I would say you vaguely know them.
