Im not an expert on this but this is my workout so far:
If you're looking for power for short distance/ ups, this is the workout Ive been doing.

Everyday: 1 mile warm up daily; less than 8 minute miles preferably.

On every other day: Then do 10x 50 meter sprints with 30 second rest in between each. Start at 50% on first set and build your way up to 75% for last set.

On every other day: do this program that Im on: http://www.geocities.com/sbz_h/aa3.html

I do sprinting on odd days and this on the even days and sunday is rest day for me.

MY goal with this is just for more ups. I dont recommend this work out solely if ur looking to be more fit for basketball, football or track as these sports require more than just leg power. Hope this helps.

By some ankle weights and jump rope. Nothing will help your vertical like a jump rope. Go by one of the thick ones so that you can go very fast. start slow, but gradually work your way up so that you can do it 1000 times. to get faster, you need to do sprints that are called build ups. so lets say that you are on a 100 yard field. go 50% to the 25- then 100% sprint to the next 25- then 50% to the endzone. The only way to get faster is to change speeds.
After Jumproping, my vertical went from 27 to 35 and after duing build ups, my 40 time went from 5.1 to 4.6

I don't know about speed, but plyometrics will help with your vertical jump.
