By connecting I'm guessing you mean the space between matter.
The answer from a physical view is easy but a bad one.
The leading theories call for dark energy and dark mater to be between all the matter. This dark matter is a term replacing a unknown substance. And I will not go into what the theories of the universe are but will say that the eleven dimensions and membranes are part of what M theory states and this is the most widely used theory. I suggest you start by reading some of Stephen Hawking's books,
