there is a coupler inbetween the motor and transmission it is very simple to change, unsnap the water pump and the motor and you will see the black rubber fragments of the old one.
every appliance repair store has these they are very common and cost about $8 to $12

Remove your water pump. The arm lever will be revealed that goes to the transmission. Manually move it through all the gears. Replace it in the position it was in when you removed the pump and replace the pump back on the washer. If that doesn't work my dad says that you need to replace the transmission completely.

Does it do this even when you close the lid?? Might be a faulty interlock switch. The machine will fill with water but will not agitate or spin because the interlock prevents the agitator from starting when the lid is open.

It's the transmission then. If you turn it sideways and see a broken belt, then that's all you need to replace. Otherwise, you're out of luck because it could be anything.

Thank gosh Im not the only one this has happened to. Yeah, you have to get the transmission replaced. Check to see if it is still under warranty, mine was, thankfully.

Mine acts the same way and I have to slam the lid to make it work....meaning, there's a switch that makes contact when the lid closes that isn't working right. Probably needs adjustment or something.

There could be a sock or other small item of clothing trapped in there. You will likely have to call a service person to check it out.

Your best bet would be to contact a sales associate. Just contact the person/place who sold you your washer. They have the best solution to fix it.
