Is there such a thing called being allergic to spermicide? A friend of mine says that she has a bad reaction after having sex because she uses condoms with spermicide. The symtoms are: iching, mild rash, redness, and swelling.

It isn't a STD because after washing a few times a day it goes away in about 4 days until she use another condom again.

Yes, many people are allergic to spermicide. It's not uncommon -- spermicide is a detergent-like molecule and can get pretty irritating. Did you know the irritation from spermicide makes women MORE LIKELY to get HIV if exposed? The stuff tears microscopic holes into the lining of the vagina, and germs can pass right through.

Instead of using spermicide, recommend to your friend that she get on birth control pills (assuming she is under 35 and not a smoker or prone to clotting) and use condoms with regular lube.

A sturdy latex condom works well enough that spermicide is totally unnecessary -- why dissolve the sperm when they're not going anywhere?

Some condoms contain spermicide such as Nonoxynol-9. It is a chemical spermicide and it can irritate some people. The person may want to read the package of the condoms to see what if it contains the spermicide Nonxynol-9 and stop using the specific condoms that uses it. As a precaution they may want to be mindful that other contraceptive products also contain Nonxynol-9 so they will have to always pay attention to the ingredients that’s in their form of contraception (protection). The long and the short of it is, the person maybe chemically sensitive to it.

Little known fact:
Nonoxynol-9 is said to increase the proliferation of Candida fungus. Candida is what causes yeast infection. See site below on important info on Nonoxynol-9

Alternatives:
Use condoms & water based lubrication

Yes you can be allergic to spermicide or latex. Just to be safe though, your friend should get tested. Sometimes stds have no symptoms at all, so just because the itching went away doesn't mean there is nothing wrong. Better safe than sorry.

You can be allergic to anything. She could also be allergic to the latex itself. Use a non spermicidal condom if there is still a problem then try lambskin condoms.

You may have an infection, and the condoms are irritating it more. For the first 6 months or so that I was sexually active, I would get chronic urinary tract infections because my body was still adjusting to what was going on. You should go to the doctor just in case.
