NEVER Destroy a book. If you don't want the bible, give it to your local church, I am sure they would find a good home for it.

The correct way to destroy a flag, or any other venerated object, is to burn it, so this would probably holdl true for the Bible as well.
But don't be in a rush to destroy it. How old is it? Does it have any family history written in it? These things can make it valuable to collectors.

Make a manuscript of that book & preserve it!
Don't ever destroy it or think of destroying it.
It can be rebound by a good binder.

Don't destroy it, read it instead. And after you read it, preserve it by binding it up again or putting it in something that will keep it.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Let it be. It will furnish its own demise and you won't have to chance the act as being sacrilegious or desecration.
